‘I want whatever he had for breakfast!’: Rob Green is HAMMERED by fans after the former England goalkeeper backed Manchester United to finish SECOND and above Liverpool in his pre-season predictions as they slam his ‘abysmal’ call

  • Rob Green has been ridiculed for predicting a second place finish for Man United
  • United scored 34 points less than  second placed Liverpool last season
  • Some compared Green’s prediction to his  famous error at the 2010 World Cup

BBC Sport asked 22 pundits to pick their top four for next season, and Green was the only one to pick a top two that didn’t involve Liverpool, as he put Manchester City first and United second, with Liverpool back in third.

The group was fairly split over who would win the league, with 13 picking City and nine going with Liverpool.

Rob Green was the only BBC pundit to include Manchester United in his top two

Fans openly ridiculed the former England goalkeeper after his left-field take

Erik ten Hag’s side have struggled to bring in the players they would have liked to this summer

‘I would very much like what Rob Green has had for breakfast please’, tweeted one fan after his less-than popular take.

Others called it ‘abysmal’, or took digs at his playing career with comments such as ‘Rob Green’s WC screw-up isn’t his worst one’.

Green famously let in a goal through his legs in England’s 1-1 draw with USA at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .

He was also variously labelled ‘woeful’, ‘hilarious’ and in need of ‘glasses.’

While the outpouring of ridicule does seem a bit harsh, the stats do not seem to back up the former England keeper.

Liverpool finished 34 points ahead of United last season, scoring 37 more goals and conceding 31 less.

Jurgen Klopp’s side also seem like they have had the better transfer window of the two, beating the Red Devils to Darwin Nunez while Erik ten Hag looks short of a midfielder and a striker.

United get their Premier League campaign underway at Brighton on Sunday while Liverpool face newly promoted Fulham on Saturday.
